I wasn't progressing, (I checked in at 5pm, Monday, had an hour of the NST, and then was immediately put on the petrosyn and had my labs) so they broke my water, I was freaking out about the water breaking because the the gel had made me so sensitive it hurt like hell, so I was screaming for a c-section. I was 8 centimeters at that time so we just went for it. Thank god for Andy had he not been there I couldn't have made it through. He just kept telling me to focus on my breathing and to stay with me baby. Shortly after that I got my epidural, which I thought would have been the worst of it, didn't feel a thing! lol! Go figure. About an hour or so later that started to wear off and I felt my contractions again. They were awful. Sitting in an upright position the nurse gave me two more rounds, I was supposed to be in a laying flat position so it could spread, instead it went straight to my legs and filled to a "wall," which unfortunately left me completely paralyzed from the waist down.
About 7:30 I was given a higher more potent dose of the epidural, (laying flat) which made the pain go away but also made my paralysis even worse. We waited for me to be full dilated and started to push. With the assistance of my mom on one leg, Angela on the other, and everyone else in the room I was "pushing" for about 10 minutes, they would push my legs back and I would try to push but I had no idea what I was doing, I couldn't move or feel anything. It was the scariest thing ever. So they dropped my epidural from 13 to 6, and it helped SO much! I could feel, and within the hour Ryder was born.
Ryder was born 9:42pm 8/26/08, 7lbs 6 3/4oz, 19 1/2 inches. They immediately placed him on my chest (see pic)
Scooped him away a minute to get him cleaned up and do what they needed to do and I crashed. My Dr thought I had a stroke. I was violently and uncontrollably shaking, throwing up, numb all over, yet my lips were tingling, ears burning, headache, my bp dropped to barely nothing. So I got a new bag of some medication going, a shot, they rushed me downstairs for a CAT-scan, that went on for about 2 hours. I couldn't open my eyes, barely able to talk, my sister rushed over. My Dr was freaking out crying, apologizing to my mom, she said she had no idea what happened or what was going on. Andy told me I had to stay with him, and that it would be okay, so I just focused on wanting to see Ryder. I hadn't come this far to leave him now.
I was ridiculously weak but they brought me back in and I built myself back up to being able to hold him. I sent out the text message alerts and pics. He fell asleep and I took a nap. About 1 close to 2 am maybe I thought I could get up to go to the bathroom, kind of clean myself off, I sat on the end of the bed to get my bearings. The nurse helped me walk to the bathroom, and it happened all over again. My head was going to explode, my eyes glazed over, and I couldn't speak, I collapsed onto the toilet, the nurse told me to just hang on to the railing. Concentrate on looking forward, take sips of water. She had to hold the cup for me. So I just stared at the faucet. Blink. Stare. Blink. Drink. Blink. Stare.
They brought a wheel chair up so I was wheeled the 5 feet from the bathroom to my bed lol. That was rather embarrassing. As if being completely paralyzed and immobile wasn't. They got me back in bed, more labs, upped the fluids.
My hemoglobin was 10 yesterday at the labs before birth, it's now 8.5 as of my 1st crash, so it's falling and rapidly. My sister, who's a nurse, was asking they they hadn't done a blood transfusion last night. So how they plan to handle this I'm not sure. I just had more labs at 6:30, the nurse is looking to see the results of those.
I'm light-headed but alert today. I'm mobile and able to get up on my own, pick up Ryder, change his diaper. Just taking it slow.
Ryder had his circumcision and is making his way through his tests, he's in getting his hearing test now. He's been sleeping all day today because of the circumcision they think. He just wants to sleep and sleep because he's in some discomfort, other than that he's feeding well, and all looks good.
I was concerned with the positive group b, but so it's almost the 1st 24 hours and that's when he's likely to get sick. He'll have a lot of check-ups in the next 2 weeks to make sure he doesn't get the long term effect, but so far so good. Kind of a waiting game on that. His initial tests all came back 100% the nurse said. So I'm feeling weak, loopy, but good.
Thanks to all who sent support. We'll be home Friday morning at the earliest.
Well by the time I finished this my labs came back in, it's down to 7.5 now. She's calling my Dr now to see what to do, whether it's Iron or tests to see if there's bleeding somewhere or what could be causing it to drop.
I'm now down to 5 on hemoglobin, so it's still dropping. So far because I'm alert and am only slightly light-headed the game plan is still tomorrow.
They've been monitoring me very well, I'm not having any side effects, my labs which they keep checking twice a day are always great save the hemoglobin, my last came back at 7.1 which I wasn't made aware of. My dr is coming in any minute to see what should be done if anything. I SINCERELY doubt as some people are suggesting they would send me home if it was a major concern. Considering I haven't had another episode since very early Wednesday morning.
Dr just left she said if I were an older person she'd have transfused me, they're going to check again in an hour and in the morning, but because I'm not having any pain or any signs of bleeding that she's not too overly concerned. She consulted another Dr and asked if she should scan my belly, and the other Dr said she didn't really think so if I wasn't exhibiting any signs of distress.
So all looks good, going to keep taking my prenatals and pop on an iron supplement and see where that gets us on Ryder's 1st appointment.
Ryder's been up and pokin around all day, he's got a HELL of a grip already so he's doing what we call his "party people" and grabbing everything in his path. In the pic above was him grabbing my finger (still swollen but I have an ankle on my right foot so we're makin progress!!! lol) So he's coming out the other side of the group b with flying colors!
Got my labs last night and this morning everything is on the upswing. His Carter's diaper bag I ordered came yesterday perfect timing!!
We're home now, Ryder's in a bilibed for Jaundice, my levels are back up to 7.X's. We go in for a weigh check on Sunday.
